This is an attempt to help to know who we are,
and remember where we came from; these are the "Roots" that have
nourished our blossoming trees, allowing us to grow. It is dedicated to
all who have paved the roads for us, and the world we live in.

Here is the family record, recorded in a Meditation and Prayer book

"Betrachtungen u. Gebete oder Gedanken und Unterhaltungen des Frommen mit Gott
Thess. 5.17. "Betet ohne Unterlafs
Erfter Theil.
Don J.C.Guldin
Gedruckt, der Johann Ritter, Readin, Penn. 1826"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the inside cover and fly leaf is the following, appearing as if someone is practicing the spelling and writing of a name
"July Shatto" "Julyanna Shatto" "Julia" [in ink] followed by what looks like "mater" in extremely faint pencil and then in heavier pencil "Shatto" then a signature, "D.H. Shatto" who was one of the children.
In the center of the book under "Familien Register" are the following entries. All the entries are written in the same block letters, however "David Shatto Sr." on the bottom of pages 1 & 3 is in cursive and appears to be a signature..
All the entries of the children are in black ink but for the last child, Sarah Ellen's, which is in red. You will notice that Sarah Ellen was born 24 days after the death of her father, David, by smallpox. All the printing is in the same hand and block style, so it definitely was not written by David --- perhaps by Julianna or one of the children. Interestingly, neither birth records of David's two wives nor the death record of his first are included.
Here it is verbatim (within quotation marks) with no notes, interjections as it appears on the family pages in the center of the book ... all punctuation, spelling & parantheses are as the original.
This page was made possible through the help of many
people.
First, and foremost, I want to thank my ancestors, without whom I wouldn't be
here, and without whom I wouldn't be the same person I am. Second, all of the
people on the Kitch-L list who
have helped and given encouragement, but especially for the major contributions
by Linda (Antram) Smith and Tom Kitch; these two furnished both inspiration and
names and dates, as well as a sounding board for my ideas. In addition I
have had help and support from too many others to name here. It is
appreciated, and as long as we keep living, our genealogy will continue growing.
